This year's European Championships may not kick off for another couple of days but that hasn't stopped the CIES Football Observatory from deciding on who the most valuable squads are and which players are worth the most in the current transfer market. Impressive knowledge before a ball has even been kicked.

Of course, any such list is always going to spark intense debate and have football fans up in arms for one reason or another, but the insight and methods used are interesting nonetheless, especially as CIES have revealed that their number crunching has placed England at the top of the list for most valuable squad, with Cristiano Ronaldo predictably topping the most valuable player charts.

CIES take into account several factors when deciding on a player's worth, including international status, position, contract, achievements and experience. All of which has been included in a handy diagram, below.

The total worth of the Three Lions' squad comes in at 751.6 million with Harry Kane their most valuable player, worth an estimated 112.5m. France are not far behind on 696.9 million and Spain round out the top three, valued at 638.9 million.

At the opposite end of the list are Hungary, who CIES believe are only worth a rather paltry 30.1 million. Their most expensive player, Nemanja Nikolics, commanding a theoretical transfer value of 6.6m.

Oddly enough, Gareth Bale is worth less now, despite having two Champions League titles to his name, than he was when he signed for Real Madrid in 2013 for £86m.
