Martin Odegaard Substituted On, Then Substituted Off Just 31 Minutes Later

Interesting choice from Real Madrid's new manager.

Martin Odegaard played a small cameo in Real Madrid's pre-season friendly against Manchester United on Tuesday night after new manager, Julen Lopetegui, decided to haul him off in the 77th minute.

Despite him entering the field of play after the break, replacing Gareth Bale, he was substituted again just 31 minutes later - an unfortunate representation of his time in Spain.

It was perhaps Odegaard's only chance to show the world what Los Blancos have been missing in recent months, but it didn't exactly go to plan.

To be fair to the 19-year-old, he hasn't really been given a real opportunity to showcase his talents.

It now looks unlikely he will feature in the coming months under new management, despite showing glimpses of brilliance against Jose Mourinho's side, last night.

He arrived to the club with expectation planted on his young shoulders, but since January 2015, the Norwegian has struggled to make any sort of impact.

It looked to be going so well for Odegaard at the start of his Los Blancos career, as well.

He finally made his first start for Los Blancos, during a 6-1 Copa Del Rey victory over Cultural Leonesa back in 2016, quickly making up for lost time by dominating on his first start.

Let's hope Madrid give the 19-year-old more of a chance in the first team this season because during his loan spell in Holland, the 19-year old was given some much-needed game-time, and in result made the most of his opportunities.

In the 3-1 Eredivisie loss against Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena, Heerenveen were 1-0 down when Matthijs de Ligt opened the scoring in the 31st minute.

However, they were back on level terms instantly courtesy of their exciting Real Madrid loanee a couple of minutes later.

Just give him some game-time and he'll surely flourish.
