The most satisfying tackle in years.

Eric Dier took the classic Sunday League saying "Let them know you're there early doors" to completely new levels when he came up against Spain.

In the 11th minute of England's Nations League game, the midfielder decided to take a massive, 25 yard run up to clatter the ever-controversial Sergio Ramos.

It was a moment that left plenty of fans, including those who support Liverpool, satisfied to the core.

One fan on Twitter said: "Eric Dier's challenge on Sergio Ramos should give us an automatic passage to the final."

While another said "How on earth has Eric Dier been cautioned for that tackle. In fact, on what planet is that even a foul! Easy to see why folks are falling out of love with football when that's given as a foul."

England produced an outstanding first 45 minutes against the former world champions, with two goals from Raheem Sterling helping Gareth Southgate's side to a dominant lead.

Paco Alcacer and Ramos managed to grab consolation goals in the second period but for many, this moment involving Dier and Ramos was remembered more than the actual result.

Dier received a yellow card for the tackle on Ramos - a decision that left plenty miffed, considering he took the ball rather than the man.

This isn't the first time a Tottenham player has got under the skin of Real Madrid's trophy-laden captain.

The Spaniard tried his very best to get under the skin of Mousa Dembele during Spurs' outstanding 3-1 win over Los Blancos at Wembley last year, but the Belgian got one over his opponent with a flurry of no nonsense tackles.

Mauricio Pochettino's side were far superior to the defending Champions League holders, with Dele Alli bagging a brace and Christian Eriksen getting on the scoresheet.

But Dembele and Ramos' battle grabbed the headlines.

The Spaniard was seen punching the Belgian in the chest, while former Fulham man Dembele proceeded to take a hack at Ramos and take a yellow card after losing the plot for a good few minutes.

He certainly wasn't afraid of going face to face with the defender - something you rarely see when Ramos plays.
