Real Madrid Pondering €60 Million Move For Sporting CP Striker Bas Dost

It would be a huge move for the Dutchman...

Real Madrid are showing interest in Sporting CP striker Bas Dost ahead of the January transfer window's opening.

According to AS, via A Bola, Los Blancos are desperate to add a new forward in the ranks and have put together a five-man shortlist: Mauro Icardi, Timo Werner, Krzysztof Piątek and Fernando Llorente.

Of all those names, Dost appears to be the most gettable because of the fact he would have no issue being second-choice to Karim Benzema at the 13-time European Cup winners.

Unsurprisingly, Real have been unable to compensate for the guaranteed goals Cristiano Ronaldo produced after his £99 million move to Juventus.

Benzema is their top scorer in the league and he has only managed six in La Liga at the halfway mark, which is way below the rest of the big-hitters.

And Dost, though a very different type of striker, is a natural born goalscorer. The 29-year old has scored 200 career goals and boasts a ridiculous record of 71 goals in 69 games for Sporting since signing from Wolfsburg in 2016.

A proper fox in the box, old-fashioned striker but the man himself has a hilariously blunt assessment of the sort of goals he scores.

"I score a lot of shit goals in my career, it's my job as a striker, but the goals in that game were all good goals," he told O Jogo, talking about his four-goal haul against Bayer Leverkusen in February 2014.

"It was a perfect day. In the last minute I scored the winning goal, we won 5-4 and it was an incredible result."

With his release clause apparently set at €60 million, would Dost be worth going after?
