Riyad Mahrez has paid tribute to former boss Claudio Ranieri, who was sacked by Leicester City on Thursday evening.

Kasper Schmeichel penned a classy message to the Italian on Instagram and signed off the post with "Thanks boss".

And though his teammate Mahrez did not write a message, the picture he posted of he and Ranieri embracing said everything:

The Algerian had his best ever season under Ranieri and played a monumental role in Leicester's shock title win last season, scoring 17 goals in the Premier League and going on to be nominated for the coveted Ballon d'Or trophy as well as scooping the PFA Players' Player Of The Year and BBC African Footballer Of The Year awards.

Leicester players Danny Simpson and Demarai Gray also posted about Ranieri.

Simpson, in particular, went in-depth to stress how much the well-liked Italian did for him and his career:

One man who is not sympathetic with Ranieri after his sacking is former Liverpool goalkeeper Doni. The pair are thought to have clashed in their time at Roma together and the Brazilian international let his thoughts be known.

When asked about Ranieri by Mundo Deportivo, his response was:

"Sooner or later everyone gets what they deserve. Lies can only be covered up for so long, the truth will always out."

Who do you think should be Ranieri's replacement at Leicester? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
