Cristiano Ronaldo has recalled the "unbelievable" standing ovation he received from Juventus fans when he scored that sensational overhead kick in the Champions League quarter final first leg in Turin last season.

Ronaldo just put his side 3-0 up with one of the greatest goals in the history of the competition and as he wheeled away in celebration, many of the homefans rose to their feet and applauding a rival player out of respect for the brilliance he had just served up.

The gesture was duly appreciated by the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, who held his hands up and graciously stuck his thumbs up.

And now, having made the shock move to the Old Lady in a £99 million move, he's reflected on just how that special moment was.

The 33-year old didn't say it influenced his decision as such, but it helped strengthen his belief about Juventus supporters and the uniqueness they have.

"Unbelievable. I remember every day, that never happened to me before," he said in an interview with Juventus TV.

"In the Champions League against Juve, a quarter-final, you score a goal and see everyone in the stadium applaud you. It was an unbelievable feeling.

"I felt surprised at the beginning. I am used to following Juve and I like the club, but since that moment I liked them even more. I won't say it was the key point in my decision, but every detail helps.

"Maybe. Of course, it helps when you see the people like you, the supporters and club like you, the feeling is completely different. I have to say thank you to all of them for the support."

Ronaldo scored 450 goals in nine scintillating years at Real Madrid but now embarks on a new challenge in Italy at the age of 33.

The former Manchester United man says he has been hoping to pull on the black and white stripes of Juventus ever since he was young.
