And no Manchester United players make his shortlist

If there's one thing Paul Scholes loves more than pinging 60 yard passes to a teammate's feet, it's moaning. The most recent target to draw the United legend's ire is the quality of the Premier League.

Speaking in a new column in The Guardian, Scholes said "You hear about people saying English football's the best football there is around. I think Spain's by far the best league. Germany has better teams. In Italy probably the strength in depth isn't great. They talk about Italy being a bad league but I don't think English people look at it."

On top of this, Scholes claimed that the English top flight can only boast three world class talents, none of which are currently playing for Manchester United.

"There needs to be a real step up in quality in England. Other than Sergio Agüero, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva, we don't have the best players. All the best players are in other countries."

While Scholes' comments may seem a tad harsh, there's no denying that in recent seasons the Premier League has fallen behind it's continental counterparts in terms of quality, with Spanish sides dominating the Champions League and Europa League for the past four years.
