Sir Alex Ferguson Used To Wind Up Carrick At The Start Of Every Season

Sir Alex Ferguson returned to the Old Trafford dug-out for Michael Carrick's testimonial earlier today.

The legendary United manager, who took charge of a phenomenal 1500 competitive fixtures during his time, led a side made up of the players who won the Champions League in 2008 in the rain-soaked evening in Moscow.

From Nemanja Vidic, Ryan Giggs to Paul Scholes, to name but a few. They took on an All-Star XI with Harry Redknapp in charge which featured Carrick's former England colleagues Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard among others.

The 35-year-old has enjoyed 11 successful years at United since joining the club from Spurs in July 2006, making over 300 appearances for the club.

And Sir Alex was full of praise for Carrick when speaking about the testimonial to MUTV:

"I think the best bit will be seeing the players, to be honest with you. 'No [I don't miss managing]. I miss the big games of course but I made my decision and I'm enjoying it.

"I don't have to worry about you lads or the agents or the press conferences and having to control that press secretary of mine!

"I'm delighted Michael is getting a testimonial. It tells you Manchester United are probably the only club in England that can do that. Players do tend to stay a long time here. We don't have players here one minute and gone the next."

And he wasn't done there. The Scot then revealed how he used to tease Carrick at the start of every season. Check out the footage below:

And as for the testimonial, it was written for Carrick to score.

A fitting moment. Shortly after netting the equalising goal, Carrick was hauled off to a standing ovation.

Carrick's testimonial was a culmination of his great work in the famous red shirt.
