Happy Birthday, Ole!

To commemorate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's 43rd birthday, we take a trip down memory lane by reliving his performance against Everton back in 1999.

United and Everton have a decent history of playing some very entertaining matches and there's been no 0-0s since 2009 when the pair met in the FA Cup semifinal, with the Toffees winning 4-2 on penalties.

The Red Devils were just months removed from winning the Treble in the 1998/99 season when Everton came to Old Trafford.

The 'Fox in the box' Francis Jeffers put Everton 1-0 up early on and from then on it was all United. Dennis Irwin scored from the penalty spot before the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer show started.

The Norwegian scored on the half hour mark to put the home side ahead and was on the score sheet again with just two minutes of the first half to go.

The "Baby Faced Assassin" didn't stop after half-time either grabbing his last two goals of the game before the hour mark to wrap up a 5-1 win with a fantastic performance.

It was the second time in 1999 that the United forward scored four in a game, coming 11 months after his four goals as a substitute in an 8-1 mauling of Nottingham Forest.

Teams:

Man Utd: Bosnich, G. Neville, Stam, Silvestre, Irwin, Scholes, Butt, Keane, Giggs, Sheringham, Solskjaer. Subs: Van Der Gouw, P. Neville, Beckham, Yorke, Cole.

Everton: Gerrard, Dunne, Weir, Gough, Unsworth, Barmby, Xavier, Collins, Pembridge, Jeffers, Campbell. Subs: Cleland, Ball, Jevons, Grant, Simonsen.

Oddly the two teams also met on December 4th just four years ago. It was a Wednesday night game with David Moyes coming up against his former team for the first time.

Bryan Oviedo was the only goal scorer as Moyes was embarrassed by Roberto Martinez' men in what was a match of slightly less excitement than the 5-1 game.
