There's Bad News For Real Madrid Regarding David De Gea's 'Release Clause'

When Real Madrid's technology from the 1990's failed them in their pursuit of David De Gea in 2015, the Bernabeu club were dealt a further blow to their chances of signing the Manchester United number one when he put pen to paper on a new four year deal at Old Trafford.

The Spanish goalkeeper's new contract, however, was believed to contain a release clause which would prompt 'Los Blancos' back into launching a bid for the former Atletico Madrid stopper.

This week has seen a revival of the 'De Gea to Real' story, with Marca claiming that the European champions made contact about the 26-year-old's availability in the past few days.

De Gea's current deal runs to 2019 with an option to extend it by an extra 12 months to 2020 and, unfortunately for Real, the previous rumours of a release clause have been proven to be false.

It had been claimed that De Gea would be available for 65m euros, yet according to The Times, this simply isn't true, with the newspaper printing a story about the Spaniard's future, today.

"United will block any new attempt by Real Madrid to sign David De Gea. The Spaniards are thought to be considering launching another bid for the goalkeeper but United are unwilling to sell. It is understood that no release clause exists in the 26-year-old's latest contract.

De Gea would not rule out a move from Old Trafford in the future, but has no immediate plans to leave. 'Nobody knows what the future holds,' he said. 'I am very happy here, it's a great club. I am not going to talk about [Real Madrid]. I am not going to speak on that matter again. Now I am going to keep concentrating on my club.'"

This isn't to say that Real will not attempt to make another move for De Gea this Summer, of course, but with United recently returning to the top of the Deloitte Money League, the Red Devils aren't exactly in a position where they will be forced into selling any of their star players.
