Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that he will be kicking Virgil van Dijk out of his house now that he's got the job as United boss on a full term basis.

It's fair to say that when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was given the interim job at Old Trafford back in December no one could have imagined that he'd be near the discussion for who the long term replacement would be for Jose Mourinho come the summer.

Solskjaer's initial role was to come in, steady the ship, make everything seem a bit more fun at the club and results didn't matter too much, after all United couldn't make the top four.

With the international break over the man who scored United's winner in the 1999 Champions League final has now been confirmed as the new permanent boss at Old Trafford, securing a three year deal.

That's not good news for Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk of all people, with the Dutchmen currently renting Solskjaer's Cheshire house.

The 46 year old struggled to sell his house after leaving the north west but the Dutch defender started renting the house when he moved from Southampton to Liverpool.

Speaking to the club's website the new manager confirmed he's hoping to live in his house soon, saying:

"We've really enjoyed the last eight years living in Norway.

"It's going to be a change for them but we're looking forward to it. The six months that we agreed on [when initially taking the job on until the end of the season] as a family we agreed to do it separately as there was no need or use to move them over, that's gone now. Now we're moving together.

"We built a house, or I started it in 2007, but finally maybe in 2019 we can move into it - that's long planning."

Where United managers live has become quite a big topic in recent years. Despite being at Old Trafford for two and a half years Jose Mourinho didn't buy or rent a place in Manchester and instead stayed at the Lowry Hotel the entire time.

Solskjaer also moved into the hotel when he came back to Manchester as the house that he lived in during his playing career, and subsequent coaching time at United initially, was being lived in by his new tenant.

Van Dijk will be hoping that when he moves out it's with a Premier League medal. The Liverpool defender and his teammates lead Manchester City by two points with just seven games of the season to go, although Pep Guardiola's side have a game in hand.

The last thing the former Celtic defender needs to be thinking about right now is moving home but now he's got to think about it.
