Ryan Giggs' son, Zach, set to sign for Premier League club after successful trial

Ryan Giggs' son, Zach, set to sign for Premier League club after successful trial

It comes after a successful trial.

Zach Giggs, the son of Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, has joined a new team following his Manchester United departure.

The 16-year-old has been at Man United's academy but is being released this summer as he'll ply his trade away from Old Trafford.

The youngster, who can operate at left-back and centre-back, enjoyed a trial at newly-promoted Premier League club Sheffield United.

And he's clearly impressed at the Randox Health Academy in recent weeks as the player has now signed a contract with the Blades academy.

The club have yet to officially announce the signing of Giggs, but pictures have emerged on social media of the teenager signing his contract, alongside his parents.

Sheff United claimed promotion to the Premier League this season, having finished second in the Championship.

They'll boast a son of a legendary Man United player, who featured 963 times for the Red Devils and won 13 Premier League titles during his storied career.

In April, Sheff United boss Paul Heckingbottom was asked about Giggs following his trial at the Bramall Lane outfit.

"There’s nothing I can say on it, but I know he’s [Giggs] in. It would be Del [Derek Geary, Academy Manager] making a decision on that," he said.

"We had a meeting last week talking about the scholars and the lads who are going to stay on and be a first-year pro.

"It’s important to be involved in it but I want them to back their decision.

"It wouldn’t be independent but if someone has been working with a player for four weeks and wants to put their name to them then brilliant, I’ll back them.

"I don’t know Zach’s situation [with Man United]. I am not privy to it at all but we can’t sign players.

"We have had lads in who we want to sign but we can’t sign them and we have lost some and they have gone elsewhere or they are on trial elsewhere now.

"If we get it lifted we can start recruiting again. It’s still the same in the academy if you are a pro.

"If someone is coming in as a pro we can’t sign them, it all depends on the type of contract."
