New, unexpected club joins the race to appoint Jose Mourinho as 'meeting planned'

New, unexpected club joins the race to appoint Jose Mourinho as 'meeting planned'

Jose Mourinho appears to be nearing a return to management.

A new Saudi Pro League side have entered the race to appoint Jose Mourinho as their manager, according to reports.

The 61-year-old has been out of work since January after he was sacked from his role at Serie A side AS Roma.

Mourinho, who guided the Italian club to the Europa Conference League in 2022, is now being heavily linked with a move to the Middle East - with Al Shabab previously showing an interest.

The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur boss has even been linked with a return to both Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford - although these moves appear unlikely.

Despite the previously noted clubs being off the table, a return to management could be approaching for the managerial veteran.

According to talkSPORT, Al-Qadsiah are 'pushing' to secure 'The Special One' as their manager in the near future.

The club are eager to compete with the PIF-controlled rivals, such as Al Ittihad, Al Ahli, Al Nassr and Al Hilal.

Speaking on the future of Mourinho, journalist Ben Jacobs offered the following update: “Nothing is done yet, but he is their top choice as they look to challenge the PIF controlled clubs - two of whom are also pushing for Jose.

“Mourinho is due in Khobar, where Qadsiah play, in late May as part of a scheduled visit to view the club.”

Mourinho himself has also commented on his future, where he outlined his ambitions to return to the hot-seat. "I’m not in a rest, I want to work,” he told beIN SPORTS.

“I want to work but I just don’t want to have the wrong decision. I have to wait for the right one, the one that motivates me.

“But if I could work tomorrow I would work tomorrow."

A number of top clubs could have vacancies this summer, including United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
