Steven Gerrard Was Furious With BT Sport Questions, Calls Out Reporter Live On Air In Awkward Exchange

Steven Gerrard gave a feisty post-match interview with BT Sport after Aston Villa's 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal.

Bukayo Saka scored the only goal of the game in the first half and Gerrard was not happy with the first 45 minutes from his side.

He said that his team "lacked belief" and stated that certain individuals didn't follow the gameplan set.

But Gerrard was particularly spiky in the chat and around a minute in is when it started to get really awkward.

Des Kelly pointed out that Villa didn't have a shot on target until "right at the death", which irked Gerrard.

He replied: "Yeah, that's exactly how I've just described the game to you, is it not? Not good enough first half, we improved second half and pushed at the end. Got some good crosses in, created some interesting moments and I thought the positive was a lot more positive second half.

"Well done for spotting that" was then uttered sarcastically by Gerrard in response to a question.

After Kelly mentioned defeats to some of the big sides and there being a gap, Gerrard continued: "Well done Des for recognising that! The league doesn't lie. I'd say that Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man United, West Ham, Wolves - at the moment - are ahead of us for a reason and there's a gap.

"If we want to take one of them places, we've got to be positive and believe in it, we can't be indecisive. But I do like the way you work out those things pretty quick."

The former Rangers boss then proceeded to call out reporter Kelly live on air, saying, "I'm emotional in interviews, I care, I don't like getting beat. I actually thought your questions would be a little better in all honesty.

"No disrespect, Des, I'm not going to make it personal but you've just said to me that there's a gap Manchester United, City, blah blah blah - we know that and you also said we got one shot on target towards the game, that's how I described the game as well."

Villa are currently ninth in the Premier League having taken 36 points from 29 games so far this season.
