Three years after retiring from the game, Sir Alex Ferguson will return to the dugout and take charge of the Manchester United team for Michael Carrick's testimonial.

Ferguson, who took charge of a phenomenal 1500 competitive fixtures during his time at Manchester United, will return to Old Trafford on June 4th as he joins the likes of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes in the United XI.

The match itself will be Manchester United's 2008 Champions League winning side against an All-Star XI.

Carrick has enjoyed 11 successful years at Manchester United since joining the club in July 2006, making over 300 appearances for the club.

And Ferguson was full of praise for Carrick when speaking about the testimonial to MUTV:

"I think the best bit will be seeing the players, to be honest with you. 'No [I don't miss managing]. I miss the big games of course but I made my decision and I'm enjoying it.

"I don't have to worry about you lads or the agents or the press conferences and having to control that press secretary of mine!

"I'm delighted Michael is getting a testimonial. It tells you Manchester United are probably the only club in England that can do that. Players do tend to stay a long time here. We don't have players here one minute and gone the next."

It was announced that both Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard will play for the All Star XI against United's Champions League winning side, but the full squad has yet to confirmed.

Back in 1998, Nicky Butt's typically wayward strike hit me right in the head. I proceeded to fall off my chair. I cherish this moment.
