Lionel Messi is a scary footballer to come up against. You wouldn't blame a defender if he'd rather not mark him. So when he got injured you'd be forgiven for thinking that his upcoming opponents would be grateful but in the example of Borussia Monchengladbach you'd be wrong.

In midweek Barcelona took on Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid. The Catalan's were leading 1-0 however part way through they had a terrible couple of minutes with Messi going off injured followed by Atleti grabbing an equaliser not long after.

The game finished 1-1 and there was more bad news for Luis Enrique after the game with his Argentine superstar expected to miss around three weeks with a groin injury. So time to celebrate for their upcoming opposition? Well not for Moenchengladbach who face Barca in the Champions League next week. They messaged him to say what a shame it was he wasn't going to play:

"What a pity! We would love to have you on Wednesday with the FC Barcelona seen here in the BORUSSIA-PARK. Get well, Lionel Messi! #UCL #BMGFCB"

Barcelona's official account replied to thank the Germans saying: "Thank you we look forward to the upcoming game!"

Before the player himself took to Facebook to thank his would be opposition for the kind sentiment:

It's a fantastic gesture from all involved, although in the end the Bundesliga sides' defenders will probably be grateful for the injury!
