The football has spent the weekend paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the crash over Colombia. And now CONMEBOL have paid their own tribute by awarding the trophy that Chapecoense were due to compete for to the club.
The Brazilian team were due to play the final for South America's equivalent of the Europa League when the tragedy strick their plane.
Initially Santa Fe, the holders of the trophy, delivered a replica to Chapecoense as a wonderful gesture. Now COBMEBOL, the South American football governing body, have decided to award the competition to the Brazilian team.

Chapecoense's acting president Ivan Tozzo confirmed the news saying:
"CONMEBOL have declared Chapecoense as champion of the Copa Sudamerican.Chapecoense will even receive the award of $6.9 million for the title. It's all confirmed.
"I do not know if it there will be a ceremony to receive the championship trophy."
The news means that the club will go into next season's Copa Libertadores which in turn means added funds for the club to help rebuild itself in the wake of the tragedy.

Atletico Nacional, who were due to be the other team in the final, had already called on Chapecoense to be awarded the winners of the trophy.
