Italy, alongside Germany, are the most successful European teams when it comes to the World Cup. The European giants have won the coveted prize an impressive four times.
And a member of Italy's 2006 World Cup winning squad has sealed a switch. Serie A minnows Pescara have confirmed the signing of Alberto Gilardino from Empoli.
Following one-season stints with Fiorentina, Palermo and Empoli, the 34-year-old striker is now back on the move.
Gilardino ends his nightmare spell with Empoli having failed to bag a league goal, scoring just the one goal in sixteen appearances in all competitions.

Other than that spell, the veteran player has been a proven goal-scorer in the Serie A having netted for a host of clubs.
From Parma, Genoa, to AC Milan as well as the aforementioned clubs.
And he now joins a team in need of goals. Pescara are rooted to the bottom of the league, securing the one win all season.

Not to mention scoring just the 14 goals, joint-second lowest with Crotone, behind Empoli's 11. Their newest acquisition has already begun training with his new side.
Gilardino's wealth of experience from scoring in this very-league to his exploits in the Champions League will prove crucial as he attempts to help Pescara climb to safety.
