Chelsea Eye Replacement If They Lose Thibaut Courtois

The Belgian is being linked with a move to Real Madrid.

For the last few years Real Madrid have clearly not been too confident with their goalkeeping situation. Once again they are expected to try and upgrade from Keylor Navas by targetting Thibaut Courtois and Chelsea have already eyed his replacement.

Even before he moved to Porto former Real keeper Iker Casillas was being phased out at the Bernabeu as first he fell out with Jose Mourinho and then Florentino Perez wanted to move for David de Gea.

Of course the De Gea move famously went south because of Manchester United's dodgy fax machine and the former Atletico Madrid goalie soon signed a new contract and now under Mourinho he seems unlikely to leave Old Trafford.

Despite Navas being a good keeper Los Blancos are still constantly linked with higher profile goalies and many reports reckon this summer they will move for Thibaut Courtois with the Belgian apparently open to a return to the Spanish capital.

That might be a blow to Antonio Conte and all at Stamford Bridge however Goal are reporting that the Blues are already eyeing up Atleti's current number one Jan Oblak.

The report mentions that Oblak signed a new deal at the Vicente Calderon at the beginning of the year that includes a 100 million euro release clause and whilst Chelsea might not have to cover that it would still be a costly transfer.

A move for Courtois would likely cost Real more than the £33 million that Juventus spent for Gigi Buffon, still a record transfer fee for a goalkeeper despite taking place 16 years ago!

Goal say that Perez and Zinedine Zidane have also taken a look at Hugo Lloris and Gianluigi Donnarumma as potential signings but Chelsea's Courtois is by far their number one target.

Chelsea could face competition for Oblak as Manchester City are also in the hunt for a goalkeeper considering the complete lack of success that their move for Claudio Bravo has resulted in.

It could be a busy summer for goalkeepers at Stamford Bridge with back up keeper Asmir Begovic also expected to leave the club.
