Juan Mata Might Have An Option Out Of Old Trafford

Will Jose give him the boot again?

For most Manchester United players the end of the LvG era and the beginning of the Mourinho one was probably a relief. For some, mainly Juan Mata, the news couldn't have been too much worse.

Mata was player of the season for two seasons in a row before Jose went back to Chelsea for his second stint at the club and then found himself moved around the pitch and often on the bench before David Moyes spent £40 million on him.

Under LvG the former Valencia number 10 was often in the team either in his natural position or on the right. However the appointment of Mourinho will likely mean he'll be sold yet again.

However it's not all bad for the Spaniard with reports back in his home country linking him with a move to La Liga champions Barcelona. Catalan newspaper El Mundo Deportivo say that Barca have twice previously tried to sign Mata.

Luis Enrique's side are desperate to add more quality to their squad and rely less on Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, MSN, as was very obvious in the latter half of the season when they were knocked out of the Champions League and just limped over the line in the league.

It's not yet been confirmed that Mata would leave but despite being a fan's favourite and being a big fan of the city it's likely he won't be in Manchester next season. Barcelona seems like a pretty good alternative.
