Well played sir!

The Americans landed the first major blow of the Ryder Cup when their secret weapon won $100 off Justin Rose and took a big chunk of confidence out of Darren Clarke's team. That secret weapon was fan Dave Johnson!

Europeans Henrik Stenson, Justin Rose, Andy Sullivan and Rory McIlroy were in the middle of a practice round when Sullivan missed a putt. The Ryder Cup rookie went to put it back and study the shot when American fan Johnson shouted that he could make the putt.

On hearing the heckle Stenson invited him onto the course to give it a go. Dave made a joke about the putter being too small and needing the putter of 6"3 Dustin Johnson instead. He then joked about being on 'home soil.'

Olympic champion Justin Rose then added to the pressure by laying down a $100 note next to the ball for Johnson to win if he putted. In typical American fashion the crowd shouted "get in the hole" as the ball made it's way towards the cup:

The reaction of the crowd and the now infamous fan along with the Europeans is absolutely brilliant and encapsulates the kind of fun the Ryder Cup should be. Although it'll be all business later this afternoon.

After the putt Stenson and Rose paid doffed their caps to the fan. Stenson said, "And all credit to him, he drilled it in the centre. He would have been chipping if it hadn't gone in but fair play to him," with Rose adding, "The guy came on and ripped it in the middle. Fair play to him."

The Americans will be asking the new hero for some tips!
