Note to self: Never, EVER, get on the wrong side of Martina Hingis whilst she has a tennis racket in her hands.

Now 35-years-old, Hingis is competing in probably her last Olympic Games, a whopping 20 years after making her first Games appearance in Atlanta.

And the former Wimbledon winner might be getting on a bit in sporting terms, but she still has a sledgehammer of a right arm - just ask Andrea Hlavackova.

Accompanied by her doubles partner Timea Bacinszky, Swiss star Hingis made the final of the women's doubles in Rio after seeing off Hlavackova and partner Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic in dramatic circumstances in Friday's semi-final.

Eventually winning the tense affair 5-7, 7-6, 6-2, Hingis and Bacinszky were just two points from defeat in the second set.

Trailing by a set and 5-4 down in the second, the entire match flipped dramatically when Hingis accidentally pelted smashed the ball into Hlavackova's face:

She immediately flopped to the ground, and looked like she may even be unconscious as medics rushed onto the court.

Hingis did raise her hand apologetically, but she didn't approach her opponent to see if she was OK, and the Swiss duo ruthlessly capitalised on the situation to ensure they'll be picking up a medal.
