Throwback Thursday: Dan Henderson Knocks Out Michael Bisping At UFC 100

At UFC 204, newly-minted middleweight champion Michael Bisping will have the opportunity to redeem a defeat carved in MMA history as he takes on icon Dan Henderson in his first title defence. The American brutally knocked out Bisping at UFC 100. Seven years later, the pair renew hostilities, this time for the middleweight title.

Bisping was undefeated since moving down to 185lbs entering the bout following wins over Charles McCarthy, Jason Day and Chris Leben with the winner in line to vie for UFC gold.

A coaching gig opposite Henderson during The Ultimate Fighter season 9 created a fierce rivalry setting up the eagerly-awaited clash through the months of barbing between the two contenders, and the fight itself didn't disappoint.

The stage was UFC 100. The biggest event in the promotions history, and how did Henderson celebrate? Well, just by delivering one of the most devastating knock outs. One of many defining moments in the 46-year-old's illustrious career. The image of the British fighter being pasted by 'Hendo's' signature H-Bomb is universally recognised among the MMA community.

Despite missing out on a title shot, Bisping persevered, as always, racking up a record of 11-5 including a notably victory over former reigning champion Anderson Silva before eventually receiving his long overdue shot against Luke Rockhold.

Coming in with just two-weeks notice, a stunning first-round knockout entered the 37-year-old into the record books by becoming the first British fighter to claim a UFC belt. All these years of sacrifice and pain yielded the ultimate accomplishment capping off the Cinderella story.

Bisping now looks to exact revenge for the second consecutive fight while asserting "after UFC 204 that (UFC 100) will be eradicated." He makes his anticipated first defence on October 9th at UFC 204 in his Manchester homecoming.
