Why The Stacked UFC 205 Is The Greatest MMA Card Ever

OMG this fuckin' card!

Barring any injuries, failed drug test or any elevator mishaps (!!) the promotions first card in New York, UFC 205, is without a doubt the greatest card in the history of the UFC.

Even president Dana White reckons so."This is the biggest card we've ever done. This is the best all-around fight card in UFC history." To be honest, if it was a pile of shit he'd probably say the same thing. But the baldfather's hyperbolic words are spot on in this case.

UFC 205 will feature not one but THREE title fights. Unprecedented territory. The stacked card will not just feature a main-event lightweight bout between Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor but a co-main involving newly-minted champion Tyron Woodley defending his welterweight belt against Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson.

Chance of producing history coupled with the lure of the Irishman makes UFC 205 unmissable, not to mention arguably the most exciting fighter in the sport in 'Wonderboy', who's recent dismantling of both Rory MacDonald and Johny Hendricks have seen him heralded as the next big thing.

Oh, and had I mentioned a battle of two unbeaten Polish phenoms? Strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will also be squaring off against Karolina Kowalkiewicz. This fight will also mark one of the rare title bouts between two undefeated fighters.

As if this card could get more intriguing, as they say 'someone's 0 has got to go'. We often berate the awarding of title shots, Kowalkiewicz receives this opportunity based on merit. A refreshing and another rare occurrence.

Plus, it's another outing for Joanna 'Champion.' The Pole's lethal hand combinations married with her charming and endearing ways has resonated among the MMA faithfuls, proving to be a popular draw.

During the on-sale pre-fight press conference, Dana dropped another fight booking bombshell by announcing a mouth-watering lightweight clash pitting Khabib Nurmagomedov against Michael Johnson. The Dagestan destroyer is back to full fitness, and will seek to extend his perfect 23-0 record while further staking his claim as the No.1 contender.

What's more, fan favourite Donald Cerrone will be facing TUF winner Kelvin Gastelum as well as ex-middleweight champ Chris Weidman vs. Yoel Romero. GOOD GOD!

Deservedly so, this ridiculous card is being hailed as the greatest ever. Heck, I'd go as far as saying it's the greatest line-up in the history of the sport. Yeah I said it!

Time to gawk. Here's the full line-up currently scheduled:

  • Lightweight title: Eddie Alvarez (l/w c) vs. Conor McGregor (f/w c)
  • Welterweight title: Tyron Woodley (c) vs. Stephen Thompson
  • Strawweight title: Joanna Jedrzejczyk (c) vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz
  • Chris Weidman vs. Yoel Romero
  • Donald Cerrone vs. Kelvin Gastelum
  • Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Michael Johnson
  • Miesha Tate vs. Raquel Pennington
  • Frankie Edgar vs. Jeremy Stephens
  • Tim Kennedy vs. Rashad Evans
  • Tim Boetsch vs. Rafael Natal
  • Jim Miller vs. Thiago Alves
  • Lyman Good vs. Belal Muhammad
  • Liz Carmouche vs. Katlyn Chookagian

Look at it. It's fucking glorious, isn't it? Lets just pray that the dreaded injury bug doesn't rear its ugly head and no one gets popped by USADA. Pray with us hoping that the MMA gods safely guide this to insane event to fruition.

In the meantime, lets enjoy UFC 204 which hits Manchester next weekend!
