Fantasy Premier League Preview: Week Three

We take a look at the best additions to those fantasy squads for the weekend

DEFENDER

Unlike his tibia, Luke Shaw hasn't had a break this season. He has played every minute of both of United's wins and looks like he is going to add 'FPL Powerhouse' to his CV alongside England International and at this rate 'Premier League Winner' too.

A few players were nervous with the arrival of Mourinho. But as Juan Mata scoured SkyScanner for cheap flights from Manchester and Schweinsteiger looked at his unanswered messages like an ugly high school cheerleader, Luke Shaw has his now fully healed feet up.

Jose is very much a fan of Shaw and why wouldn't he be? Sure, Man United are hardly looking like a brick wall at the back, but who is? Clean sheets are at a premium this season by the looks of things and you need to pack your fantasy football defence with potential attacking points.

Bad news: Denis Irwin retired years ago. Good news: Luke Shaw can be that unmovable rock in your squad for another 36 weeks.

MIDFIELDER

It's been tricky getting the right midfield so far this season. Most people have bitten the bullet and included Zlatan and Aguero in their front line which means sacrifices have to be made to midfield.

There aren't many FPL squads flaunting De Bruyne, Hazard and Sanchez this season and so we have to be a bit more creative. That said, not one person thought Etienne Capoue would be out on his own as top scorer in the game after two weeks. And if your mate Tony down the pub claims he knew Capoue would be great this year, you call him a God Damn Liar from me! Tony! A lot of people are jumping on the Capoue Bandwagon (which sounds like a hipster dubstep night in Shoreditch) but I'd hang fire and leave your stock in someone like Nathan Redmond at Southampton.

He is being played in a forward role, which led to him scoring opening day and they face an already worried Sunderland this gameweek. Pre-Season I bet on Sunderland to go down, Newcastle to win the Championship and Middlesborough to survive at 12/1 and I'm more confident on Sunderland going down than any other!

Saints should comfortable beat them at home and if Redmond scores, he may just keep that number 10 slot.

FORWARD

I'm going to say two words that will instantly make you think bad news for a football manager. Nope, not Dani Behr, but the one and only Christian Benteke. Liverpool pulled off a sale even Del Boy would be impressed with and they pretty much broke even on a guy who could've score past Exeter in 180 minutes last season.

However, in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king. And Palace are a footballing Stevie Wonder! The only other options available to them up front are Frazier 'Injured' Campbell and Conor 'Pick Your Own' Wickham, which means Benteke can expect some game up top.

While we are well beyond the days of a side needing to field an out and out striker, we know from Pardew's days at Newcastle he likes a presence in the box and a club like Palace don't spend the best part of £30 million for a guy to sit on the bench or be rotated.

They leave that kind of professional squandering to Liverpool and Spurs. We also have to remember that Benteke was a big FPL draw in his Villa days and Townsend, Zaha and Cabaye provide much better service than he got in his final Villa Park years.

Bournemouth could well have a difficult second season on their hands and I fancy Palace to edge them this weekend at home. Obviously, if Benteke doesn't play/score/turn up/wake up then forget I ever wrote this. See you next week!
