Vincent Kompany could soon be part of National League North club Stockport County after helping a Belgian entrepreneur to place a bid for the Greater Manchester club.

Vincent Kompany is a popular man right now. As well as being a Premier League winning captain with his eyes on the World Cup he's also reportedly wanted by BT Sport to be a pundit.

As recently as 2002 Stockport were in the second tier of English football, the Championship as it is now, and in the 1998/99 season were actually a division above now Premier League champions Manchester City.

Now though County are a non league side and there are currently two bids to takeover the side from Greater Manchester with Kompany indirectly involved in one of the bids

According to the Manchester Evening News the central defender hasn't had an active role in the takeover bid and still wants to focus all his energy on playing football.

Kompany does have an interest in several businesses though including one with Belgian businessman and former classical pianist Klaas Gaublomme.

The two are partners in a Manchester-based management consultancy called Football Centrix and Gaublomme heads up a consortium that makes up of one of the two bids for Stockport.

The club will discuss the two bids in a meeting tomorrow with the Belgian's offer having been on the table since last year although the competing bid has reportedly been around longer.

Stockport finished bottom of the Championship in 2002, the same season that Manchester City went back up to the Premier League, winning just six of their league games.

In 2011 they went from league to non league as they finished bottom of League Two with just nine league wins in the season.

Their stay in the top tier of non league lasted just two seasons and they were relegated to the National League North in 2013 where they've now spent the last five seasons.

This season they made the play-offs but lost in the eliminator to Chorley though they had an attendance of 3,000 which is excellent for the National League North.

Could Kompany help Stockport rise back through the divisions?
