The Dutchman is set to become Liverpool’s next manager after it was widely reported that a compensation fee worth up to £9.4million was agreed with Feyenoord.

Slot is poised to succeed Jurgen Klopp, who, in January, announced he would leave Anfield at the end of the current campaign.

The 45-year-old led Feyenoord to the 2022-23 Eredivisie title, while this season they have won the Dutch Cup and are on course to finish second in their league.

Slot’s attacking style, personality, and ability to develop players are said to be key factors in making him Liverpool’s primary choice to succeed Klopp.

But as per a fresh Athletic report, upon taking the reigns at Anfield, Slot will be blocked from signing one player Klopp has long had his eye on.

Indeed, for a long time, Klopp is thought to have been a big fan of Barcelona star Gavi, with Spanish radio station El Nacional having reported in April 2022 that the German had “become obsessed” with securing a move for the midfielder.

However, the Athletic has claimed that while Barcelona are looking to make big sales in the summer, only three players have been given “untouchable” status - Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi and Gavi.

One player who could depart, however, is Robert Lewandowski, who despite having netted on 23 occasions this term, has been linked with moves to the Saudi Pro League and MLS.

On the Poland international’s future, Barca boss Xavi Hernandez said: “I am not going to speak about anyone’s future as I don’t think it’s helpful for us. I am happy with Robert.

"The work he does for the team is extraordinary, an outstanding footballer and an example for the dressing room on the way he conducts himself. That’s why he scored a hat-trick. I am delighted for him.”
