Fans think official Man Utd account aimed dig at Man City moments after Champions League defeat

Fans think official Man Utd account aimed dig at Man City moments after Champions League defeat

Manchester United took to social media as soon as Manchester City were eliminated from the Champions League.

Fans are convinced Manchester United taunted Manchester City on social media following their crushing defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Man City were dumped out of the competition following their 4-3 penalty shootout defeat on Wednesday.

After playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Bernabeu, the two sides couldn't be separated at the Etihad as they drew 1-1, forcing extra-time before penalties.

Bernardo Silva missed his side's first penalty as Luka Modric produced an '1000 IQ' move straight after fluffing his lines from the spot.

Mateo Kovacic also failed to convert his spot-kick thanks to a little help from Antonio Rudiger, who slotted home the winning penalty.

And as soon as Man City were eliminated from the Champions League, Man United took to social media in what fans are thinking is a clear dig at their cross-town rivals.

On X, the club tweeted: "Wembley is calling," accompanied with an image promoting their next game - an FA Cup semi-final showdown against Coventry City.

The timing of the post didn't go unnoticed among Man United fans on social media.

One X user wrote: "GOOD TIMING ADMIN."

A second tweeted: "lmaooooooooo nice one admin."

A third added: "Timing of this tweet is stupendous."

A fourth said: "ADMINNNNNNNNMMNNNNNN. We’re so shameless but I love it."

Another joked: "Admins had a stormer there credit where it’s due."

Man City and Man United are both in FA Cup action this weekend.

The Blues meet Chelsea on Saturday while the Red Devils face Championship outfit Coventry City on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola will be hoping for an immediate response when they face Mauricio Pochettino's charges.

Speaking after his side's defeat in the Champions League, he said: "Congratulations to Real Madrid - they defended so deep with incredible solidarity.

"We did everything. I don’t have any regrets about what we have done.

"Always as managers we try to create more and concede less in every single game because that helps to win. We did everything, defensively and offensively.

"They made a good goal. There were two, three, four transitions but it is normal at that level with the quality they have.

"We played exceptionally in all departments. Unfortunately, we could not win. It is what it is."
