Fans joke Lionel Messi's Inter Miami goal is "scripted" after spotting key detail vs Atlanta

Fans joke Lionel Messi's Inter Miami goal is "scripted" after spotting key detail vs Atlanta

They joked it's "scripted".

Fans have all been saying the same thing about Lionel Messi’s second goal for Inter Miami against Atlanta United.

Messi scored twice and assisted once on his first start for Inter Miami, as the Florida-based side dispatched Atlanta 4-0.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, regarded by some as the greatest player of all time, netted two goals inside the opening 22 minutes before setting up team-mate Robert Taylor in the second half.

Messi’s show-stopping performance follows a match-winning stoppage-time free-kick on his debut last week.

On the Argentina star, Taylor said: "He can do everything on the ball. He can keep it in tight spaces, and he makes the right decision 100% of the time. Most of the time he'll find one of his team-mates. He brings so much quality to the team, so much. I mean, he's the best player in the world.

"This is what he does - he scores two goals, he scored last game, gets another assist. It's a dream come true to play with him."

Messi only trained with his teammates for the first time last week after moving to the MLS following the expiry of his Paris Saint-Germain contract.

Yet he delivered a typically electric performance, with fans marvelling at his second goal in particular. Messi picked up the ball from Sergio Busquets in midfield, ran towards the edge of the box and laid a pass off to the onrushing Taylor, who was streaking down the left flank.

Taylor then cut the ball back into the box for his Argentinian colleague who latched onto the pass and struck a shot just inside the post.

Fans noticed the goal was almost exactly the same as another the World Cup winner scored for PSG against Lille, leading some to joke it had been "scripted".

When making the comparison between the two goals on Twitter, one supporter said: “This is more than scripted bro Messi is insane.”

Another wrote: “‘Back to the Future’ is real.”

A third person said: “I understand why you haters think everything he does is scripted…”

A fourth wrote: “He does the same thing over and over again.”
