From 2001-2004 Gerard Pique and Lionel Messi got their footballing education together at La Masia. Since 2008 the pair have won six La Liga titles together and lots of other trophies but apparently the defender won't be at the forward's wedding.

Two names as synonymous as anyone else's to the success that Barcelona have had in the past decade are Gerard Pique and Lionel Messi. They belong besides greats like Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Carles Puyol.

Between the pair they have won 14 La Ligas, eight Copa del Reys, seven Champions Leagues, six FIFA World Club Cup trophies, and of course five Ballon d'Ors- although that might be being rather fair on Pique.

So you'd have thought that when the Argentine superstar ties the knot in the summer that Pique would be close by, maybe even part of the grooms party. But according to El Pais you'd be wrong.

The Spanish paper reports that it's because of an issue with the bride to be, Antonella Roccuzzo, and Pique's missus Shakira.

According to the report the two women in the footballers' lives haven't got on since 2010 and the pre Shakira era of Pique's life.

That's because Roccuzzo and Pique's ex, Nuria Tomas are good friends and once Pique and Shakira became an item after the breakup of Roccuzzo's mate and Messi's pal the bride to be sided with Tomas and never got on with Shakira.

So the paper say that both Pique and Shakira haven't been invited to the big day.

The issue doesn't seem to have affected the friendship between Messi and Pique with the two being able to add many trophies to their cabinets since the apparent falling out between their respective women in 2010.

There is still a chance the pair could add another Champions League, La Liga or Copa del Rey title to their ridiculous collections before the wedding in the summer with the club second in the league, through to Champions League quarter final and the Copa del Rey final.

Messi is due to tie the knot in June this year and the event is expected to be the social event of the Spanish summer.
