The Championship club reportedly tabled a five-week contract worth £10,000-a-week.
However, the very first training session AFTER putting pen-to-paper he injured his calf, ruling him out for the duration of his newly-minted contract.
Collins was so angry, he went back to Bodymoor Heath training ground and physically teared his contract with the club per Mirror.
"James has picked up a calf injury and hasn't trained," Smith said about Collins.

"He has a tight calf so there's nothing moving with that."
Collins had enjoyed a spell at Villa, previously, between 2009 to 2012.
He was an ever-present in defence, eventually completing a transfer to West Ham.
Villa, who currently boast the likes of James Chester and Axel Tuanzebe in defence, will now have to deal with the hectic Christmas schedule without Collins' services.
