Conor McGregor only captured the UFC lightweight title a few weeks ago but it appears the promotion are already set to create an interim title in his absence.

According to reports, Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson is "90%" complete as they compete for the interim-UFC lightweight title.

The pair have been trading verbal shots on Twitter but are now set to finally meet inside the Octagon with a March 4th date being touted - UFC 209.

The source comes straight from the horses mouth as the Dagestan phenom revealed that the fight was nearing finalisation speaking on Russian television (via SportBox.RU);

"Percent 90 already negotiated all. Fight on March 4 at UFC 209 with Tony Ferguson in Las Vegas for the interim title. Waiting for a call, answer it. On Twitter, he talks one thing and everything in life differently."

Following McGregor's historic UFC 205 victory, the Crumlin-fighter confirmed his brief hiatus from the sport as a result of him expecting his first child.

The current lightweight king will sit out a majority of 2017 as he becomes a father with Nurmagomedov and Ferguson set to do battle in the meantime.

What a fight in store!
