Liverpool target Arne Slot was involved in 'tunnel bust-up' with Jose Mourinho after brutal comment about the 'Special One'

Liverpool target Arne Slot was involved in 'tunnel bust-up' with Jose Mourinho after brutal comment about the 'Special One'

Arne Slot and Jose Mourinho clashed when AS Roma came up against Feyenoord in the Europa League.

A clip of Jose Mourinho berating Arne Slot in the tunnel after a Europa League clash has resurfaced as the Dutch manager continues to be linked with the Liverpool job.

It was reported on Wednesday that Liverpool have opened talks with Eredivisie side Feyenoord over appointing Arne Slot as their next manager.

Slot is said to fulfil several key criteria that Liverpool chiefs are looking for in their new boss, according to Sky Sports, including his aggressive, full-throttle style of play.

The 45-year-old has earned a reputation for his high-intensity tactics at Feyenoord, but he's also hit headlines for making some not-so-subtle comments in the press.

In fact, last season, he was involved in a bust-up with Jose Mourinho after his side came up against Roma in the Europa League semi-final, as seen in the video below.

Prior to the first leg, Slot aimed a jibe at Roma's style. As told on BBC 5 Live Sport, the Dutchman decided to play some serious mind games ahead of kick-off.

"He [Slot] was asked by an Italian journalist if he had been watching Jose Mourinho's teams over the last few weeks to work out which tactics to play," said the reporter.

"He replied, 'I haven't actually. I don't like watching Mourinho's teams. I only watch Pep Guardiola's teams because I learn something every time."

"That really incensed Mourinho. After the game, he had a rant at Slot in the tunnel. Mourinho was shouting, 'Go and watch Pep Guardiola. You won't win anything'.

"It was really, really embarrassing. Slot looked at him and thought, 'What a clown. I watch what I like because that will contribute to the way I want to play with my teams'."

As seen in the clip above, footage captured Mourinho shouting at Slot. There also appeared to be some back and forth, with some of his coaching staff also getting involved.

Mourinho went on to aim another dig at Slot for his lack of hair in an interview, telling Sky Sport Italia: "No, now you know why my hair is so white! The other coach is bald, I’ve got white hair. It’s because I’ve had 150-odd European matches, I’ve seen everything."
