Wayne Rooney tweet resurfaces after Virgil van Dijk criticism as Liverpool fans say 'there's always a post'

Wayne Rooney's old tweet makes for interesting reading following his criticism of Virgil van Dijk.

Wayne Rooney's old tweet has resurfaced on social media following his criticism of Virgil van Dijk complaining about Liverpool's upcoming 12:30pm kick-off against West Ham United.

Liverpool suffered a crushing 2-0 defeat against Everton as goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin ensured the three points and bragging rights.

The loss at Goodison Park comes as a blow to the Reds' Premier League title aspirations as they trail league leaders Arsenal by three points.

After the match, Van Dijk bemoaned his side's lunchtime fixture on Saturday at West Ham, which didn't sit well with Rooney, who called out the Liverpool captain's comments on Sky Sports.

"He's the captain and he's talking about Liverpool getting outfought but again we're hearing about 12:30 kick-offs after he's just lost a derby," he said.

"That Liverpool team should be wanting to be on the pitch tomorrow morning to get the next game going.

"When you lose a game, especially a derby game, you want the next game to come quick.

"We've heard it so many times this season with Liverpool about 12:30 kick-offs.

"Get on with it! That's part of your job! Get on with it and you should be ready to play."

Following Rooney's public dressing down of Van Dijk, one of his old tweets emerged online.

In a post from October 2011, the former Manchester United star lamented the early kick-off, claiming it's 'no good for players'.

His old tweet read: "Just have to say 12 o'clock kick off is no good for players. Trying to force pasta down at 9 in the morning is not nice."

Needless to say, Liverpool fans jumped on Rooney's old tweet as they made their feelings clear.

One X user wrote: "There's always a tweet."

A second tweeted: "Mad thing about his comment last night is Virgil wasnโ€™t complaining, he just said they have to prepare for the 12.30 KO."

A third added: "Changed his tune!"
