The top tier league in Thailand has ended early following the death of the King last week.

Because of 88-year old King Bhumibol Adulyadej's passing, a 30-day mourning period was arranged, with the public instructed to not engage in any entertainment or sports.

The football association ended the season but received complaints from relegated teams deeming it to be unfair. The governing body looked into the matter further, with all 18 clubs able to voice their opinion. However only team argued against the decision and so the season finished with some teams having as many as three fixtures left.

Strict laws in place in the country would have meant challenging the decision would have been hugely frowned upon.

But that hasn't stopped the controversy, as one team; Bangkok United, were still in with a chance of catching league leaders Muang Thong United, who finished top by five points.

One Bangok fan was disappointed with the decision which prevented his side from mounting a late push for the title.

As quoted by The Guardian, Pansa Suwanthichakorn said:

"They could have asked the clubs to observe a minute's silence before the start of every remaining match until the season ends. This way, I think football fans would understand."

"[Bangkok United] is normally fighting against relegation. I had never ever thought we would get this far. It's a pity that we didn't have chance to fight for the title."

Chainat Hornbill were just a point away from safety with two games left and were subsequently relegated as a result of the games being cancelled.

Here is the league table in full, where you can see that the outcomes could potentially have been very different in a different stance was taken.

Imagine if this was in England and your team were affected? You'd be absolutely outraged!
