Chelsea Finally Set To Sign A Defensive Target

About time!

It's felt for big swathes of the summer like Antonio Conte has been a man on a mission to find a defender from Serie A and it looks like with just three days left of the window he's finally going to get his mitts on one!

The Italian signed N'Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi early on in the summer but the rest of the window hasn't gone well for the Blues new boss. According to reports he's missed out on targets Kalidou Koulibaly, Nikola Maksimović and Alessio Romagnoli from Serie A as he's tried to boost his defensive options.

But he's not given up hope and it looks like he'll finally land a defensive target although it won't be a centre back. Instead the former Juventus boss is going to add a left-back to his squad. Fiorentina's Marcos Alonso is on the verge of a €25 million move to Stamford Bridge, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

The 25 year old has been with the Viola since 2013 and cost the Italian side absolutely nothing having signed on a free after being released by Bolton Wanderers. That would be a tidy profit for Paulo Sosa's team.

The Madrid full-back spent three seasons in England with the North West side before heading to Italy but wouldn't represent a particularly inspiring signing for Chelsea. Who knows if that will be it for their summer business.
