WWE Battleground: Betting Preview

The pay-per-view gets underway at 1am tonight, live on WWE Network.

Tonight's WWE Battleground pay,-per-view will be the last event before the brand split comes into play - with Raw and Smackdown set to have their own exclusive pay-per-views.

The selling point of the event is clearly the main event, as WWE Champion Dean Ambrose defends his belt in a triple-threat match against Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins - the three were part of the Shield, one of the most dominant factions in WWE history. Each man has gone their own way and tasted WWE title success, but they remain driven as ever.

This pay-per-view isn't the most important for WWE, but it looks set to be a decent night of in-ring action. Here are some of the bets you can take advantage of.

On the pre-show, the Usos take on Breezango in tag team action. There's not much to this much in all fairness, it's just a throwaway match to get some of the guys on the show. Sky Bet are offering odds on this one and surprisingly Breezango are the favourites at 4/11, but I think the Usos will be the ones to pick up the win - you can get 2/1 on them to win.

In the first of two Women's matches, we have Becky Lynch going up against Natalya, who assaulted the Lass Kicker when the two were defeated by Charlotte and Dana Brooke at Money in the Bank last month. If given time, this could be a good match.

As far as odds go, veteran Natalya is the favourite with Betfair at 1/3, while Lynch is at 2/1. These two are both on the same brand so we can expect this to be the first of many bouts - I think that Becky Lynch will probably win this one by some sort of roll-up.

The Miz defends his Intercontinental championship against Darren Young, who has WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backlund in his corner. Young won the right to fight the Miz for the belt after winning a Intercontinental Championship Battle Royal on Raw. This one won't be a classic title match and I really don't envisage a title change here. The current champ is the favourite at 1/3, whereas Darren Young is 2/1 to win his first singles Championship.

In the other mid-card title match, United States Champion Rusev looks to swat side his challenger Zack Ryder and continue his dominant reign. Again, I cannot see a title switch. Rusev is the overwhelming favourite, with odds of 1/10 and Ryder's slim chances sees him at 5/1 to win the United States championship for the second time.

Elsewhere, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will once again square off and attempt to find a way to end their bitter rivalry. These two always deliver in the ring and they could well steal the show on Sunday night. It's a hard one to call, which is reflected in the odds -Zayn edges it at 1/2 but I thinks Owens is the better bet with odds of 7/5. I must say, I'm disappointed there's no special market here where you can guess how many forearms and punches will be thrown.

One special WWE market you can get with Betfair is whether Shaquille O'Neal will compete in a match at Wrestlemania 33. In my eyes, this is easy money considering that O'Neal is pretty much nailed on to fight the Big Show on the grandest stage of them all following an altercation at the most recent Wrestlemania. Shaq wants a piece of Big Show and is 6/5 to wrestle at next year's event in Orlando.

Back to Battleground, Sasha Banks and a mystery partner will take on the team of Women's Champion Charlotte and Dana Brooke - it's the second pay-per-view in a row that the WWE Women's Championship will not be on the line. Possibilities for Banks' partner include NXT star Bayley, Paige, Naomi, Alicia Fox and even someone like Lita or Trish Stratus. Whoever the Boss selects to be her partner, she will likely be the one picking up the win the odds are in her favour. Banks and her partner are 1/6 to get the win, as opposed to the 7/2 you can get on Charlotte and Dana Brooke.

The showdown between the New Day and the Wyatt Family factions should be a fun match, much like the whole feud so far. The two polar opposites did battle at the Wyatt Family compound a couple of weeks back on Raw, which made for some interesting viewing.

Much to everyone's relief, the New Day were not split up in the draft but the same cannot be said for their opponents at Battleground - Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan were drafted to Smackdown, while Braun Strowman will head to Raw. The Wyatt's are the clear favourites at 1/4, with the New Day's odds coming in at 5/2. The odds aren't too appealing but I predict that the Wyatt Family will emerge victorious.

The second six-man tag sees another faction team for what could potentially be the last time, as AJ Styles' The Club lock horns with John Cena once more, but this time the franchise has popular duo Enzo and Cass by his side.

Styles has been on roll since debuting in WWE, consistently putting in incredible matches. With Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson flanking him, he oozes confidence and that shows in his verbal spats with Cena.

And though the record books show he scored a victory over John Cena at Money in the Bank, he did it with the help of the Club, who made it their mission to take down the 15-time World Champion. Enzo and Cass came to his aid though, resulting in a six-man tag match at Battleground. Cena, Enzo and Cass are the favourites at 1/7, but you can get a tidy bet on the Club - they are 4/1 to win what could be their final match together, with Styles separated from his buddies Gallows and Anderson in the WWE Draft.

Then comes the main event of the evening, a dream match in every sense. Three men who have changed the direction of the business with their contributions as the Shield. As with all good things, they come to an end and the Shield eventually imploded when Seth Rollins did the unexpected and hit his 'brothers' with a series of vicious chair shots.

Since then, every member of the Shield has held the WWE Championship the top prize in the wrestling industry. It's Ambrose who walks into this match as the Champion but each man has enough about them to reign supreme; Ambrose with his crazy antics has defied the odds to become the top dog, Rollins' road to redemption story was short-lived and finally, Reigns will be chomping at the bit after his 30-day absence for his first violation of the wellness policy.

There's sure to be an electric atmosphere and predicting the winner is incredibly difficult. Ambrose is the favourite with Betfair at 2/11, Rollins comes in at 5/1 and the returning Reigns with odds of 13/2. There could well be some form of double-pin or non-finish to bring in a second world title as part of the brand split - Reigns finally becoming a fully-fledged heel is also a real possibility.

It all goes down in Verizon Center in Washington, DC live on Sky Sports Box Office and WWE Network on 1am.
