Roy Keane changes his opinion of Erling Haaland after Man City star's latest goal

Roy Keane changes his opinion of Erling Haaland after Man City star's latest goal

Keane had previously said Haaland's general play was 'almost like a League Two player'.

Roy Keane has revised his opinion on Erling Haaland after the striker scored Manchester City's second goal in their 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The Norwegian was back in City's side after two games out through injury, although did have to settle for a spot on the bench initially at the City Ground.

Haaland managed to run through on goal before slotting the ball beyond goalkeeper Mats Selz on 71 minutes - nine minutes after he came on.

In the process, he effectively ended Forest's hopes of getting back into the contest.

City are now one point behind Arsenal in the race for the Premier League title, though do have a game in hand on their rivals.

And Haaland's impact prompted a change of mind from Keane after his critical comments of the striker during City's 0-0 draw with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium last month.

Speaking on Sky Sports after that game, the Manchester United legend said: "In front of goal, he's the best in the world.

"But for his general play, for such a player, it is so poor. Not just today. He has to improve that.

"He's almost like a League Two player, that's how I look at him. His general play has to improve, and it will do in the next few years."

After the 2-0 win over Forest, though, Keane decided to bump Haaland up by a couple of divisions.

He began: "He was very much like a Championship player, he has improved a lot!

"In terms of a goalscorer, he is absolutely amazing. There's no doubting his quality in terms of his finishing.

"When he's coming on he will want to have an impact on the game, and when it's stretched like that he's got people like Kevin De Bruyne, he's going to find you. And then it's just that bit of sharpness, which he has shown."
