Diego Costa is producing the same heroics on the pitch from the title-winning side a few years ago, but the red-hot striker has admitted he wanted to leave in the summer.

The Spaniard was yet again on the score-sheet as Chelsea beat Stoke 4-2 to secure all-three points while maintaining their position at the summit of the Premier League.

But the main takeaway came from after the game. Costa finally admitted that the rumours of him wanting to return to Atletico Madrid were actually true.

"I wanted to go (last summer)." He told Express.

Citing personal reasons for wanting to head back to Spain, though asserts he's "happy" and "content" in London.

"I was about to leave. There were family reasons for wanting to go back to Atletico Madrid, but it wasn't to be and now I'm happy here. And I'm content."

As well as detailing the special relationship boss Antonio Conte has with his players.

"The people at Chelsea love me a lot and the manager, Antonio Conte, told me he counted on me. He is someone we can talk to, somebody whose support we can count on."

Continuing by praising the Italian.

"He is calm with the players. He is not just a boss but a person too and you can see that people love him."

Luckily for the Chelsea faithfuls, and Conte, Costa opted to stay and is enjoying a brilliant season thus far topping the Premier League goal-scoring charts.
