It appears the mega-fight between 'Canelo' Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin have agreed to fight, albeit a year from now.

Fight fans have been eagerly awaiting this clash though they'll have to wait a little longer for the bout to come to fruition, after both parties have tentatively reached a verbal agreement to fight in late 2017.

ESPN later confirmed that anticipated clash will be at 160 pounds, which is the reason for the long wait. According to sources, 'Canelo' "wants a fight or two to acclimate to" the added weight. Which seems pretty bizarre considering how big the Mexican looked on fight night, but hey.

'GGG's' promoter Tom Loeffler spoke to ESPN outlining the deal they've struck with Golden Boy, saying;

"I met with Eric on Monday and we had a good, good conversation,and the plan was they want to shoot for fall of 2017, It's not going to happen in September of this year, so we'll use the time to build the fight. We wanted the fight in [this past] May. It's Gennady's priority to make the Canelo fight as soon as possible, but Golden Boy felt next year would make the most sense on the promotional side and with the weight as well."

Following his devastating knock-out over Amir Khan, he then relinquished the WBC middleweight title which was awarded to the unbeaten-Kazakh. The postponement of the fight will see both men take on a few contests in the interim paving the way for a potential Golovkin vs. Eubank Jr. clash.
