Tour De France: Final Stage Preview

Viva Chris Froome!

The final and most traditional day of the tour, no time will be taken from the yellow jersey today.

This will be a showdown for the sprinters, Peter Sagan, Andre Greipel, Marcel Kittel and Bryan Coquard are all likely to battle it out in a mad dash to the finish line in Paris.

The majority of the stage will follow the same script as every year, the usual jersey show offs at the front of the peloton, the iconic drinking of celebratory champagne and the informal neutralisation of the first 40 or so kilometres.

As the race reaches the Champs Elysees the race will start to liven up, Fabian Cancellara likely to feature in the characteristic doomed break of the day, celebrating his final tour in a very illustrious career.

The main showdown of this stage will occur in the final 10km when all the sprinter's teams get into the action.

Kittel and Griepel's teams will likely lead the peloton, these sprinters following the train of their lead out men.

Sagan and Coquard will be surfing wheels within the first 30 riders, vying for their chance to break out within the last 300m for the win.

The terrain at the finish line is slightly uphill and cobbled, not a typical sprint stage.

Riders such as Sagan and Kristoff will therefore fare well but with so much at stake for the sprinters, all will likely contest the finish.

If he hadn't already dropped out, Cavendish would instantly be my top pick for the day, no one beats the Manxman when he's on form.

However, his withdrawal from the tour will completely open the race up with Kittel, Sagan and Griepel all vying for the glory down the Champs Elysees.

A dark horse for this stage though, could be Coquard at 9/1, 2nd place last year and a few top three finishes in sprint stages this year.

He is a sprinter on top form; adding to to this his young, cocky personality as well as the the fact he is a Frenchman, he will be looking for a big win here.

One thing we know for sure however, is that no matter what happens, Chris Froome will (probably) be bringing the Yellow Jersey back to Britain for a third time.
